Unity SunSync Versus the Competition: A David and Goliath Story

|

It's hard to go up against a name brand that is a Goliath in the optics industry. It’s even harder when Goliath is the name most patients associate with photochromics (transition lenses). However, if you remember the story of David and Goliath, David defeats the giant with smart technology (a sling and a stone). SunSync® Light Reactive Lenses may be the underdog, but smarter photochromic technology wins in the long run.

We test our lenses against our known competitor regularly, and we’re always pleased with the results. Compared to the competition:

  • SunSync Elite Lenses adjust from dark to clear in seconds rather than minutes, are darker outdoors, and are clearer indoors than the competition.
  • SunSync Drive XT is ultra dark outside and retains a tint behind the wheel, a pain point for many photochromic wearers.

Working with NSL Analytical, a respected third-party independent testing firm, we did a comparison of SunSync Lenses against the industry Goliath. Turns out third-party testing backs up our claims.

1. SunSync Elite Lenses Are Faster

Testing confirms that SunSync Elite changes from dark to clear 30% faster1 than the known competitor's lead product, addressing the number one patient complaint about photochromic lenses. Most people care about their appearance and having half-tinted lenses while ordering at their favorite restaurant is not a big seller. SunSync Elite goes from dark to clear in under a minute, so your patients can spend less time waiting in that awkward lens transition state.

2. SunSync Lenses Are Clearer Indoors

NSL Analytics also found that SunSync Elite is clearer indoors than the known competitor's lead product, with 96.0% transmission vs 94.0%.2 The amount of light that passes through the lens is measured from 0% to 100%, and an increase of 2% can be the difference between clear and “near” clear.

3. SunSync Drive XT Lenses Are Darker

SunSync Drive XT activates in the presence of UV and visible light, so it retains a tint behind the windshield. Third-party testing also proved that this drivewear lens absorbs up to 91.5% of light outdoors, darker than the competition3 and darker than a Gray 3 tinted sunglass lens.

Simplified Choices Equals Streamlined Dispensing

Many ECPs who dispense photochromics are familiar with the term, “choice overload.” Whether it’s a type of optical lens or a wall of different salad dressings at the grocery store, having too many choices can make it more difficult for people to decide. SunSync has reduced the complexity of choosing a light-reactive lens by offering a simplified portfolio that makes dispensing fast and easy.

Data Doesn’t Lie

Both photochromics are good, but as third-party testing proves, SunSync Light-Reactive Lenses outperform the competition with fade-back speed, indoor clarity, and darkness outside. SunSync Elite and SunSync Drive XT are exclusive to private practices. Once they discover the difference, patients will keep coming back.

Near, Far, and Everything in Between

SunSync Elite Lenses are the perfect enhancement for Unity® V3 Elite Progressive Lenses that deliver a lens precisely tailored for your patients.
